Luja, Oktombro 13, 2008 - Columbus Day

This morning I woke up with the thought that I should have stayed home, that today would be a day in which no money was earned. I should have listened to this instinct instead of driving my ass all the way downtown to the hotel. Believe it or not, national holidays kill business every time. I have no idea if this is consistent for other women in my profession or not but it never fails to hold true. I suspect that this is because most of my clientelle visit me during their lunch hours or during clandestine escapes from the office, sort of a 'Susan, hold all my calls for no good reason' sort of situation. So when a national holiday rolls around it means that the men about town are not in the office and are less likely to be able to get time away from their families, often being married after all. One can hardly tell Susan to hold all their calls when the wife and kids want to go on a picnic. Damn it all, now I feel like a horrible person for making light of their infidelities. I am kidding, of course. It is their problem to work out, not mine, and I feel fine about that.

In any case not being one for following the calendar means that I always forget about these holidays and end up paying money out to the hotel without ever making any money back in earnings. To be honest I can hardly see the point in celebrating the day at all. First of all Columbus did not even show up first if you look at the correct historic record. First we had the indigenous peoples and then the Irish and the Vikings came along at some nebulous unrecorded point in time and then there was Amerigo Vespucci and so forth. Then when he did get here he did nothing of any great importance and after he was done doing of any great importance he brought about the prompt genocide of the indigenous inhabitants. If you ask me it is a stupid fucking holiday and no good reason to avoid an illicit tumble with an all-too-eager woman of ill repute. Though in the end I suppose it is for the best. In my rush to get to the hotel in time I accidentally left all my lube at home.
